kunstmuseet brundlund slot
The Brundlund Castle Art Museum displays alternating exhibitions of the museum's collection of Danish art from the 1700s up until the present.
The permanent exhibitions feature work by artists from Sønderjylland and there are fine collections of art works by C.W. Eckersberg, Jeppe Madsen-Ohlsen, Nikolaus Wehding, Claus Carstensen and several others.
The castle gardens contain permanently exhibited sculptures.

In addition to the exhibitions of the collected works, the museum hosts special exhibitions that expound various themes regarding art history as well as contemporary art.

Brundlund Castle is situated close to the fiord, the woods and the oldest part of the town of Aabenraa. Built on an islet and surrounded by a moat, the 16th century castle has served as a royal, ducal and national seat of administration.
In the castle, the visitors can still experience the dungeon, the fortified cellar and the 19th century detention cells in the gatehouse.
On the castle islet there is the stables and the gardener's quarters from the 1700s, which are now used as an art workshop for children. Since 1998, the castle has housed the art museum. |
